An Unsuitable Job for a Cat

I drew this effort some time ago, but it came too soon after this cartoon I did about a blind man, so I decided to wait a bit.

For the record, I do not think disability is funny per se, but blind people can have funny things happen to them just as easily as everybody else. As a partially-sighted person, I can personally attest to this.

I'm not sure what's going on with the minimalist landscape, though (I am: downright laziness - Ed).

  1. They wouldn't be much good at making balloon animals either.

  2. Splendid idea - although to be honest my cat is not a great one wearing a harness ... or moving very far from the radiator now that winter is upon us.

  3. Niamh - No, they assuredly would not be good for that!

    Eva - thanks.

Jane - My own two fluffies are enjoying the benefits of central heating too.

  4. The minimal landscape is an arrow, taking the viewers eye to that which the artist has chosen as the focal point of the image. Cleverly done! In addition, it would be funny, if my car door hadn't just gotten smooshed in the parking lot of the Opthalmology building. Many words were spoken about those who don't see well enough to drive, or leave a note for insurance purposes.

  5. ER - I like your take on the minimal landscape! Ouch on the car door thing, though! I think there should be regular compulsory eye tests for drivers, I'm pretty certain there are plenty of drivers out there who can't see properly and, as for not leaving their details, that's just scumbaggery of the first order.

  6. i did once see one of those Paul Merton programmes where he went around the former eastern block and saw some cats that had been trained to perform - but the trainer had used natural cat behaviour to his favour

Somehow i think a cats predeliction for lots of sleep would make a journey into town quite tiresome

  7. That's hilarious. I don't think disability humor is offensive as long as it's cleverly executed. Nice one!

  8. I love it! It's so ludicrously funny :)

On the other hand, I'm well suited to having a guide cat - being so naturally slothful myself.

    Bug - Me too!

  10. DFTP - just saw I missed you out in the replies. I can just imagine a poor blind person having to stop every so often on the way to tpwn. Imagine if the kitty saw a mouse!

    Sincerely,
Just one of your blind readers

  13. Helen - I suspect that cats aren't good for much except chasing the odd mouse when they can be bothered. I'm not pitching this one to the venture capitalists just yet.

Steve - Hi, I'm pleased you found the cartoon amusing. Your comment intrigues me: cartoons are hugely visual by their nature, so I'd be really interested to discover what works and what doesn't for a blind person. I guess a lot would depend on how the picture was described. I will be posting cartoons on here in the future and I will try and remember to put a description as well. Thanks for commenting.
